Buhari Inaugurates Committee on North-East Initiative

President Muhammadu Buhari has launched the Presidential Committee on the North-east initiative with retired General Theophilus Danjuma leading the body.

The committee is burdened with the responsibility of providing effective coordination and guidance towards addressing the humanitarian crisis, the resettlement and reconstruction of the north east.

During a brief ceremony at the state house Abuja on Wednesday the President charged the committee to develop the strategy and implementation framework for rebuilding the north east region. 

The region has been ravaged by the Boko Haram insurgence in the last seven years, killing and maiming Nigerians who live there.

Thousands were displaced while some were abducted by the terrorirst group. Houses and schools were destroyed as a result of incessant bombings in the region.

Last week, the senate passed the bill to rebuild the North-east.
