Reps Summon IGP Idris Over The Killing of 3SC Player

The House of Representatives has summoned the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris over the alleged killing of a footballer with 3sc club of Ibadan and three others in Ekeki community of Bayelsa State by policemen.

This followed the adoption of a motion by Duoye Diri which expressed concern that the alleged action of the police was capable of leading to a breakdown of law and order.

The police boss is expected to appear before a joint committee of police and human rights.

Joseph Izu was shot at close range by the police about two weeks ago. The police alleged that the player was a member of cult. 

The killing sprouted a protest by angry youths in Bayelsa State who denied the allegation that the deceased was a cult member.

Menawhile  a bill for an act to repeal and re-enact a law on Nigerian Prisons and Correctional Service Act 2014 has scaled second reading on the floor of the senate.

The bill is aimed at giving clear cut rules setting out the obligations of the prison service and rights of prison inmates
