Judicial Fuss: Civil Society Group Demands Suspension of Alleged Judges

More reactions still coming in the wake of the arrest of some judges by operatives of the Department of State Service.

A coalition of civil society groups in Abuja has demanded the suspension of the affected judicial officers from office pending their prosecution.

The protesters, who were prevented by security personnel from entering the supreme court complex, insisted that the judges cannot continue in office while undergoing trial.

In a similar development, reactions have begun to trail the decision of the National Judicial Council to bar media reportage of allegations of misconduct levelled against judges and employees of the judiciary.

Under the new policy, the NJC said it will not entertain any complaint sent against a judge or employee of the judiciary for investigation, if after receiving the complaint it is leaked or discussed in the media.
